FIRST World Festival

Wow, what a spectacular event!  Going to the World Festival was an incredible experience.  One of the best parts was meeting teams from all over the world.  Everyone we met was so friendly and enthusiastic.  Congratulations to all the teams for a great week!  We were very excited to win a Judges' Award!  We'll soon be posting more detailed information about the event.  But for now, here are some pictures and some thoughts from two team members.

            

            

Team member 12 Vault says "Being at world was an amazing experience.  It was so cool being able to meet all the different teams from all the different countries.  I wish I could have spoken some different languages though.  I always did want to meet people from Chile.  One team from Chile had only kids that had had cancer in the past.  I thought that was cool that they got to come to world.  It's very cool knowing that you talked to people from a country that you may be studying in school!  It was an all around amazing experience and I hope I'll have the opportunity to go again." 

Team member Pink Piggie Angel says "One of my favorite parts of the World Competition was the Finale on Saturday night at Centennial Olympic Park.  First we ate a catered meal of barbecue and roast chicken.  Next we played on many blow ups.  Then off to the carnival games where all the games were free.  We finished the evening with entertainment of Fire Eaters and Sword Swallowers.  An awesome firework show was the sad part because we knew it was time to leave."

 

2007 - 2008 Georgia State Champions!

The Transformers won the first place Champion's Award and the third place robot performance award in the FLL Georgia State Tournament on February 9th.  This allows them the privilege of representing Georgia at the FLL World Festival in April!

Nearly 1800 9-14 year olds, on approximately 200 teams, competed in regional competitions across Georgia.  The State Tournament involved 49 of these teams, all of whom had won awards at regional competitions.  Three teams scored 400 rounds at the competition:  Gear Geeks, Mind Warriors, and Transformers. 

The Transformers team is really excited to go to the World Festival in April!

Transformers at the 2007 - 2008 Georgia State Tournament

The Transformers participated in the Georgia State Tournament on February 9, 2008.  There were 47 teams from around the state and much fun was had by all.  The team placed third in robot performance and first in the Champions award.  Winning first place allows the Transformers to move on to the World Festival in April.

There were many excellent teams there who had expertise in robot performance, robot design, teamwork, and research.  The Transformers and two other teams, the Gear Geeks and the Mind Warriors, all scored 400 point rounds at the competition!  All the teams we talked with were gracious professionals and we enjoyed making new friends.

Transformers at our 2007 - 2008 Regional Qualifier

The Transformers participated in the North Fulton Regional Qualifier on January 12, 2008.  This was held at Roswell High School and was hosted by Mrs. Mischa Holt of YES (Youth Engaged in Science).  The team won first place in the Champions award and first place in robot performance.  This enabled us to participate in the state tournament in February.
