End of Year Party

We had the team end of season party very late (we are all so busy).  We ate pizza, cake and ice cream.  We also celebrated the coach's wife's birthday.  She was 39 again!

 

It has become a tradition to tear apart the field elements at this party.  It adds some finality to the season.  The 2.5 hours of building and many hours of sticking/picking the parts on/off the table were obliterated in a matter of minutes.  The whole set of field elements compressed into the bottom of a copy-paper box (see below).

Georgia State Tournament

The team had fun at the Georgia State Tournament!  This was the culmination of the year with the top 48 teams in Georgia competing.  There were 293 teams in Georgia and 11,000 teams in the US and Canada this season.

The Transformers did not win any awards, but did come in 12th in the robot game portion of the competition.  We all had fun on this long day.  The RoBugs (RoBots Under God) won the tournament with two rounds of perfect 400's and one round of 390.  They had an excellent research project and their programming was great -- congratulations.

We two coaches had a wonderful time teaching the kids and watching them grow this year.  Registration for the 2010/2011 season is only four months away!

  

  

 
 
 
 
 
 
 

400 Point Run!

The team had its first 400 point run tonight with about three seconds left over.  On the eve of the Georgia State tournament, the kids did well.  

 They did a team work exercise where they "became" a laptop and a Survival on the Moon problem solving exercise that NASA uses for astronauts.  Project presentation was next, followed by a run through of the design presentation.  One of our team mates was ill and we missed her.  We hope she gets healed up for tomorrow and will pray for her.

Finally, we celebrated one of the kid's 10th birthday with an excellent cookie cake.

Going for 400 Points

The Transformers have finished all of the missions and 400 points are within our reach!  We have to string the programs together speeding up the robot wherever we can.  We have to make the changeovers faster than a well-oiled pit crew at Indy.

 

Advancing to State

Georgia State Tournament

The Transformers advanced from the FIRST Lego League Robotics Super Regional Tournament on Jan. 9th to the Georgia State Tournament!  The event will take place on Jan. 23rd at the student center on Georgia Tech's campus from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  The public is welcome.

Super Regional Results

The Transformers competed at the Souther Polytechnic State University Super Regional on Jan. 9th.  We are advancing to the Georgia State Tournament!  The venue was excellent.

  

 
  

 
 

New Countdown and Cookie Cake

We started a new countdown calendar for the upcoming Super Regional Tournament on January 9th at Southern Polytechnic State University.  The kids reviewed the judging feedback sheets from the Kell Regional Qualifier and watched the "game films".  They have decided to do some more research and to go for more points with the robot next time.  They think 400 points are in their grasp!

First Place at Regional Qualifier

The Transformers robotics team received the First Place Champion's Award at the Kell Regional Qualifier.  We worked very hard and had a great time!  All four of the competition's elements came together for us: Teamwork, Research Project, Robot Design and the Robot Game.  The tournament was run by the Kell Robotics team and Mr. Barker the program director.  It was very well organized and stayed on schedule.  Thanks to all of the volunteers!

Research Presentation

The topic this year is related to transportation, so the project is Transporting Animals In and Out of Georgia on Planes.  The kids invented a better shipping crate for any kind of animal that will not collapse, cools the animal if the temperature gets too hot and transmits an audio/video feed to one's phone or the Internet.  The owner or caregiver can watch the animal from the plane or from the ground.

Robot Run

On the last robot run the team completed all of the missions with only a few seconds to spare.  They have worked so hard to accomplish all the task and they did it!
